Installing
Windows says "Windows protected your PC"
The setup is not signed yet. Press More info, then Run anyway.
Windows Security removed the setup or the game ("Trojan:Win32/Wacatac" or "Bearfoos")
A known false alarm for old games until the game is signed.
- The setup was removed: open Windows Security, Virus & threat protection, Protection history, open the Yanis Online entry, Actions, Allow on device. Run the setup again.
- In the setup, keep Let Yanis Online run without Windows Security removing it ticked and press Yes when Windows asks.
- Pressing Start says Windows cannot find Yanis.exe: the game was removed after installing. Run the setup again with that option ticked.
The update window is empty or white (Windows)
It needs Microsoft Edge WebView2. Windows 11 has it; on Windows 10 the setup installs it. If it is still white, install WebView2 from Microsoft's site and start again.
macOS says the app "cannot be opened" or the developer "cannot be verified"
Right-click (or Control-click) Yanis Online, choose Open, then Open again. On newer macOS: System Settings, Privacy & Security, scroll down, Open Anyway. You only do this once.
Linux: the Yanis Online window does not appear
The window needs python3 and Tk (packages python3-tk on Debian/Ubuntu, tk on Arch and Fedora). Without them the game still starts, without the window. The game itself needs a Vulkan graphics driver (Mesa or NVIDIA).
The first start
The game data download stopped or failed
The first start downloads the game data (1.8 GB) once. Check that you are online and start again: it continues where it stopped.
It says it could not reach the update server
The game starts anyway with the version you have. Check the server status; if the server is up, try again in a minute.
Screen and controls
Changing the resolution, full screen or sound
Press Setup in the Yanis Online window. Choose a size, tick or untick full screen, and save. The game uses it the next time it starts.
The text is tiny on a big screen (1440p, 4K)
The game draws its interface at a fixed size. Pick a smaller game size in Setup and play in a window, or on Linux tick Fill the screen in the Yanis Online window (it scales the game up sharply).
The mouse disappears or the window cannot be dragged to another screen (Windows)
Fixed in the current version. Install the latest setup from Downloads.

Being fixed in the Mac app. Until then, the game's own cursor is the one that counts.
The screen is black or white (Linux)
In the Yanis Online window, switch the renderer and start again.
Playing
The game froze after changing equipment, or an NPC stopped answering
Fixed on 18 October 2026. If it still happens, start the game again and send a report.
How good is my connection?
Type @ping in the game chat. It shows your round trip to the server, measured by the server. Under 100 ms is smooth; over 250 ms you will feel the delay.
I can't connect or I get disconnected
- Check the server status.
- Check your account name and password on this website (Log in).
- Security programs can block the game's connection: allow Yanis Online in yours.
In-game windows
Type these in the chat. Each opens a window you can drag by its title and close with the box in its corner.
@mimonster: stats, hit and dodge chances, elements, drops and maps.@whodropsitem: every monster that drops it.@wsitem /@wbitem: shops selling it / buying stores that want it.@kc(or Alt+K): your kill counts.@kc resetclears them; the lifetime totals stay.@glog[item]: your guild storage's deposits and withdrawals.
Keyboard shortcuts
- Alt+Y: the Yanis window: add-on version, server link, frames per second and ping. Press it again to close it.
- Alt+K: your kill counts, the same window as
@kc.
The chat reminds you of both, in light blue, each time you log in. The window titles show them too: Yanis add-on (Alt+Y), Kill Count (Alt+K).
The game says "Please play with the Yanis Online client"
The server only accepts the Yanis Online game with its own files. Start it from the Yanis Online window (or the launcher) so it updates itself, or download it again from Downloads.
The game closed with an error
A box with Copy and Exit appears. Press Copy, then Report in the Yanis Online window and paste it into the report. On Linux and Mac, the Yanis Online window offers to send the report by itself after a crash.
