Make an account, then install the game. The setup is small: the game's data and music (1.8 GB) download the first time, and every update after that installs itself when you start the game.
Before you install
Windows: Windows Security (Microsoft Defender) does not know Yanis Online yet. Until the game is signed, it can mistake it for a threat (Trojan:Win32/Wacatac or Bearfoos) and remove it. This is a known false alarm for old games. The setup handles it: keep Let Yanis Online run without Windows Security removing it ticked and press Yes when Windows asks for permission.
If Windows Security already removed something:
- The setup you downloaded: Windows Security, Virus & threat protection, Protection history, open the Yanis Online entry, Actions, Allow on device. Then run it again.
- The game (pressing Start says Windows cannot find Yanis.exe): run the setup again with that option ticked.
| Windows needs | Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit; a DirectX 11 graphics card (any from the last 12 years); 2 GB free; internet for the first start. Microsoft Edge WebView2 draws the update window: Windows 11 has it, and the setup installs it on PCs without it. No DirectX or Visual C++ downloads. |
|---|---|
| Linux needs | 64-bit; a Vulkan graphics driver (Mesa or NVIDIA); python3 and Tk for the game window. Debian/Ubuntu: sudo apt install python3 python3-tk mesa-vulkan-drivers. Arch: sudo pacman -S python tk vulkan-icd-loader. Fedora: sudo dnf install python3 python3-tkinter mesa-vulkan-drivers. Wine comes with the game. |
Windows
Download for Windows 26 MB, for Windows 7 SP1 to Windows 11.
- Run YanisOnline-Setup-0.1.4.exe. The setup is not signed yet, so Windows may say it protected your PC: press More info, then Run anyway. Keep the Windows Security option ticked (see above).
- It installs for your Windows user only, so no administrator password is needed. The game data downloads during the setup.
- Start Yanis Online from the desktop or Start menu. It checks for updates; press Start and log in with your account.
Screen size (up to 4K), full screen and sound are under Setup in the update window. The game draws through dgVoodoo; Yanis Online - graphics (dgVoodoo) in the Start menu has its scaling and anti-aliasing. If the game flickers or looks wrong, run the setup again and pick another renderer.
Window size: in a window, pick a size smaller than your screen (the title bar needs room), for example 1600×900 on a 1920×1080 laptop; for your screen's full size, tick Play in Full Screen. Win+Shift+Left/Right moves the game to another monitor.
Linux
Download for Linux 101 MB, 64-bit. Wine comes with it.
- Unpack it where you want the game to live:
tar -xJf YanisOnline-0.1.4-linux.tar.xz - Run
./install.shin the YanisOnline folder once. It adds Yanis Online to your menu and desktop. - Start Yanis Online. The first start downloads the game data, with a progress window; if it stops, start again and it carries on.
Your system needs a Vulkan graphics driver (Mesa or NVIDIA) and python3. Yanis Online - setup in the menu sets the screen size and sound.
macOS
Coming later.
